Team-working:
I have had the ability to work with people in a busy working environment from 6pm until 12pm every Monday, Wednesday and both Friday and Saturday at the premier ex-patriot bar in Nanjing, China. I have worked among Chinese people as the only ex-patriot in the workforce of 10. I developed unique ways to communicate within our group and to see what needs doing and who needs help with orders and bartending as there are only a maximum of 2 people behind the bar at one time. I have worked most week nights between 4pm until 8pm until the business picks up and this has made me more commercially aware of the customer’s intimate needs and got to know how to serve people each individual drink under the pressure of mounting customer queues.
Communication:
While in my workplace at the bar, I have had to learn how to communicate to different people in different languages to find the most effective means of communication between us to get the most efficient job done. I have had to teach younger children in other languages to teach them the English language
Confidence:
Presentation is key in all areas of work and particularly in the areas of teaching and bar work. I have learnt to present myself and negotiate a fair payment in both my areas of work. Confidence is immediately noticeable and as a bartender I worked hard to gain the trust of those whom I was serving to make them feel more comfortable in the effort that they would drink more.
Organisational Skills:
I have had to organise stock before I start work on a Monday during my time working at the bar. I have had to work under pressured circumstances such as on special sporting events such as world cup friendly matches, the champions league matches and the super bowl. |
